Under 13A Boys Travel Team
UNDER 13 SEASON
Fall 2007 Season -
The Under 13A Blue Devils participated in two summer tournaments before the start of the Delco regular season.
The team was a finalist in our division in the Spirit Kick-Off Classic, finishing with a 2-1-1 record and 10 goals scored
while allowing only 4 goals against. Although the Gettysburg tournament was ended prematurely due to weather, the
team performed well with a 3-0-1 record and 15 goals scored and only 3 goals against. The Blue Devils later participated
in the YMS Columbus Cup in October. In this tournament the team suffered only 1 loss to the eventual division
champion team, the Princeton Patriots, but it was enough to keep us out of a rematch in the championship game. The
final record in the three tournaments was an impressive 7-2-2 with 30 goals scored and only 11 goals allowed.
The Blue Devils played in the EPYSA 1 South Division during the fall outdoor season, and finished with a record of 5-2-
2 with 20 goals scored and 11 goals against. In the first round of the playoffs against a spirited Concord team, second
half goals by Kevin Lawson and Devin McLaughlin lead the team to a win and a semi-final game against a very strong
York United team. The Blue Devils had defeated York by a 2-0 score during the regular season, but expected a tough
game in the rematch. The team was down 1-0 at halftime, but rallied to tie the score in the second half on a goal by Ken
Lassiter. Unfortunately, York scored the game winner with less than 3 minutes left in the game to knock the Blue Devils
out of the playoffs. The final outdoor record for the team was 12-4-4.
The Blue Devils roster consisted of 16 players: Our keeper was Jeffrey Green, occasionally assisted by Kevin Lawson.
The defensive corps consisted of Connor Keating, Sean Kenny, Alex Dupre, Jason Shein, and Josh Klein. The midfield
was patrolled by Mark Abi-Khattar, Jake Aronchick, Justin Aoyama, Gabe Boni, Ted Foley, and Doug Trimble, while the
forwards included Dylan Henderson, Kevin Lawson, Kenneth Lassiter and Devin McLaughlin. The team trainer was
Grant Myers, and the coaches were Brant Henderson and Bill Kenny.
November, 2005: Delco Soccer League - Division Two Finalists
Prior to the start of the regular season, the Blue Devils participated in the Spirit Kick-Off Classic tournament where the team received a Finalist trophy. Jeffrey Green’s stop of a penalty kick with less than one minute to play against West Chester proved to be the difference. Only a late goal in the opening game against TEYSA, which resulted in
a 4-3 defeat, stood between the Blue Devils and the Championship trophy. The team later competed in the YMS Columbus Day tournament. After a first round defeat of Buckingham (avenging a loss to Buckingham a year earlier in the same tournament) and a tie against a very tough West-Mont club, the remainder of the tournament was cancelled due to poor weather.
This year the Blue Devils competed in division two of the Delco League. The team finished the regular season with only a single defeat, and a final record of 8-1-3, good for a third place finish which qualified the team for the playoffs. During the course of the season, the Blue Devils scored a total of 31 goals while allowing only five in recording nine shutouts. The team had good offensive balance as the team received goals or assists from eleven different players during the season. Our leading scorers were Connor Keating (10 goals, 6 assists), Dylan Henderson (5 goals, 6 assists), Alex Dupre (3 goals, 4 assists), and Jeffrey Green (3 goals, 4 assists).
In the first round of the division playoffs, the Blue Devils faced West Chester, whom we had tied in two previous meetings. Dylan Henderson scored the first goal of the game with assists from Jake Aronchick and Jeffrey Green. West Chester later posted a goal to tie the game at 1-1, a score that lasted through a scoreless overtime. For the Blue Devils, Jeffrey Green, Ted Foley and Jake Aronchick successfully converted penalty kicks to give the Blue Devils a 3 to 2 lead. Having already stopped one PK try by West Chester, Jeffrey Green stopped their fourth attempt as well, setting the stage for a Blue Devils win if our fifth shooter could convert. Up stepped Dylan Henderson who drilled the ball into the lower right corner of the goal, sealing the victory for the Blue Devils.
In the championship game against West-Mont, Jake Aronchick scored, with an assist from Connor Keating, to knot the score at 1-1. Sadly for the Blue Devils, West Mont scored a goal with less than 3 minutes to go in regulation to claim the title. The Blue Devils proudly completed a very successful Delco season their 2nd place finish.
The Blue Devils got great goalkeeping during the year from Green and Jason Banner. The defense in front of them was led by Alex Buckmann, Sean Kenny, Josh Klein, Jake Marks and Bryan Shapiro. Offensively, the team got a lot of help during the season from Sam Elgart, Thomas Fakharzadeh, Aron Morgan, Vincent Patrizio and Sam Stein.
During the winter the Blue Devils will participate in the indoor league at Rocket Sports, competing up a year in the U-12 age division as well as several winter indoor tournaments.
The Blue Devils welcomed eight new players to their returning nucleus of nine original Blue Devils as the team roster was expanded with the move to the larger playing field. These 17 players enjoyed an outstanding season as measured by wins and losses, but success was also found in an injury-free season on the field and tremendous advancement in the overall level of the players’ soccer skills. Most of the credit for the team’s technical and tactical advances this season should be given to Grant Myers, our team trainer. Grant very successfully combined superior communication and coaching skills to bring out the best in each player on the team. Coaches Brant Henderson and Bill Kenny would like to again express their sincere appreciation to Grant for his commitment to the Blue Devils team.
