Each Sunday, players in these age groups will be led through a 30 minute skills clinic, led by members of the LMSC coaching staff.
During this time, each child will have his or her own size 3 soccer ball to work with. The primary emphasis of the skills clinic will be
for the players to develop soccer skills, as well as develop their coordination and agility as related to the game of soccer.
After each skills clinic, the players will be divided into small teams. Each team will play a 30 minute game, playing four players against four.
Players in these age groups will NOT be placed on set teams for the year. This is done so that players will be able to enjoy themselves in a
non-pressure soccer environment and so that their parents will not have an incentive to worry about having
a “winning season,” “undefeated season,” etc.
For each of the divisions above, there will be a "Beginners Group" and an "Advanced Group." The "Beginners Group" will be for players who are new
to soccer or who have limited athletic ability. The "Advanced Group" will be for players who have played at least one full season of soccer.
While not definite, these divisions are tentatively set to play at Penn Wynne Playground, Manoa Road in Wynnewood at the following times (each session lasts about one hour):
BOYS DIVISIONS:
- Atoms Advanced: 12:45
- Atoms Beginners 2:00
- Bantams Advanced 3:15
- Bantams Beginners 4:30
GIRLS DIVISIONS:
- Neutrons Beginners 12:45
- Neutrons Advanced 2:00
- Mictrons Beginners 3:15
- Mictrons Advanced 4:30
All players are strongly encouraged to bring a size 3 soccer ball, with their name clearly written on it in magic marker, to each session.
All players will receive an LMSC game shirt at their first practice.
Our youngest divisions are run by:
- Michael Mark, Long time LMSC coaching veteran at LMSC and former LMSC player. Mike has run the youngest
age groups in our Fall Intramural Program and Spring Intramural Program for 15 years now. After playing at Lower Merion High School and in
Lower Merion Soccer Club, Mike played at the college level at Long Island University. Mike has been coaching in LMSC since 1996.
- Matt Schwartz, Another former LMSC player, Matt played varsity at Lower Merion High School and then at Hobart College. Matt has been
coaching at LMSC since 2007.
- Rachel Madel, a Temple University graduate. Rachel has been coaching at LMSC since 2005. Rachel is currently persuing her Masters
Degree in Child Development and Education.
- Kara Williams, a four year varsity member of the Temple University Women's team. Kara is also a head coach in the LMSC Travel Team
Program and is the the goalkeeper instructor for LMSC's travel team goalies.
Because of the small numbers of players on each team, we need to have a large number of coaches in each division. Over
90 percent of our coaches are parents of the players. Parents are asked to give consideration to volunteering to
coach. You do not need to have playing experience to be a coach. At LMSC, we set aside a large percentage of our budget
for coaching materials, coaching clinics, etc. We believe that the best way to have a successful program is to have
coaches who are enthusiastic and understand their roles and responsibilities.
Our more extensive Fall Intramural Program will offer the Pee-Wees Division. In the fall of 2012, the Pee-Wees Division will be geared
towards boys and girls born in 2008.
