This award goes to two LMSC people who will be entering their freshman year in college. Each winner receives a $2500 scholarship. The award is given each year by an anonymous donor from within the LMSC family.

The 2008 Award Winners are Tom Kalpokas and Brooke Wieczorek. Tom was a long time player for the LMSC Hammerheads and served many years as an intramural referee and field crew worker. Last fall, Tom was the 2nd MVP of the Catholic League in high school and was named to the All State High School Team. Tom will be attending LaSalle University this fall and will be playing on the men’s soccer team there.

Brooke has played travel team soccer for the LMSC Stingrays for the past six years. She was a three time All Central League selection in high school as well as a two time Academic All-American for her athletic ability and academic ability (she has a 4.0 GPA) in both soccer and lacrosse. Brooke will be attending the University of Pittsburgh as a freshman this fall.

LMSC would like to wish Tom and Brooke the best of luck at college this year. We also would like to thank them for their many years of service to our organization.

In 2000, one of our younger soccer players, Rachel Savett, passed away due to anaphylactic shock, caused by very bad food allergies. She had just been selected for one of our LMSC travel teams. Rachel’s father, Robert Savett, coached in LMSC for over ten years. To honor the memory of Rachel, LMSC created a scholarship fund in her name. The scholarship is awarded each year to a former LMSC player, referee or field crew person who is currently in college.

The 2008 Award Winner is Allison Zuzelo. Allison played for many years in LMSC and has been a member of the Harriton High School team the past four years. For the past four spring seasons and fall seasons, Allison has served as an intramural referee assignor, ensuring that all of our intramural games have referees. Allison will be attending Northwestern University starting this fall. LMSC will be awarding Allison a $1000 scholarship in memory of Rachel Savett.
