The LMSC Under 9A Boys won their state championship game in a thrilling overtime classic, defeating FC Europa 2-1.
LMSC got the first goal of the game after 10 minutes as Ethan Heyward beat two defenders and the goalie. The remainder of the game was
very defensive. LMSC's defenders, Connor Stein, Ben Bradway and Jonathan Levine were rock solid all day. It appeared that LMSC would
take the game 1-0. The referee added two minutes of injury time at the end of regulation, during which time Europa was awarded a free
kick from 25 yards out. The Europa player struck a nice free kick to tie the score, 10 seconds before the referee below the whistle
to end regulation.
LMSC quickly regrouped and turned the pressure back on. Five minutes into the first overtime, Will SHort gave Heyward a perfect pass and
Heyward scored his second goal of the game to give LMSC the lead back.
The LMSC defense was excellent again as goalies Noah Katz and Caden Arnold were excellent all game. The final whistle
of overtime sounded and LMSC rejoiced, knowing they earned the title of State Champions.
