SWAMP PIGS (U-9A BOYS) TAKE SECOND AT INDOOR STATE CUPS

January 8, 2012 - The LMSC Swamp Pigs (U-9A Boys) played in their first state cup competition and came away with a second place trophy. The team opened up the tournament against the Ukrainian Nationals, the Delco League champions back in the fall. The game was a hard fought one which ended in a 2-2 tie. Both goals for Lower Merion were scored by Josh Axelrod. The second game for the Swamp Pigs was against a very strong Lehigh Valley team. Playing possibly their best game ever in their short history, the LMSC boys won 8-2. The next two games were easy victories, 11-0 over CSSC Union and 5-1 over FC Revolution. Their 3-0-1 record put them on top of the bracket standings and earned them a trip to the finals.

The championship game was a very exciting one against Wyoming Valley. LMSC got on the scoreboard first, but as the game went on, the tide shifted in favor of Wyoming Valley who put in two goals to take the championship. In the Swamp Pigs four games, the team allowed only seven goals. They were led by the excellent goaltending of Aidan "Fofi" Niggeman and defenders "Krazy Kris" Galica and "Stinkin' Lincoln" Blouin.
