The LMSC Sabertooth Rats won the very competitive YSC Invitational Soccer Tournament held Memorial Day Weekend in Kirkwood, Delaware. The team
opened up play with a 7-3 win over Ironbound, New Jersey and followed that with a 6-3 win over Real Arsenal from New Jersey. On Sunday, the
Rats lost 7-4 to arch-rival Baltimore Bays. The Rats however only needed to score three goals in the game to advance to the championship game due to
the tie breaker rules. Baltimore and LMSC have developed a great rivalry this year, playing four great games against each other.
The championship game saw a rematch against Real Arsenal who had beaten Baltimore earlier in the tournament. LMSC's Harrison Malone scored three
minutes into the game to give LMSC the lead. Real Arsenal then got fired up and scored three goals to give them a 3-1 halftime lead. LMSC goalie
Sebastian Connelly made many fine saves to keep his team in the game as the LMSC field players appeared disorganized and out of synch.
LMSC made a few minor adjustments and came out storming in the second half, scoring seven unanswered goals to give them an 8-3 victory
in the championship game. Three of those goals came from Malone who finished with four goals on the day. Julian Niggeman also had a hat trick in
the second half while Luca Giordano also tallied.
The championship trophy was awarded to seven year old Aidan Niggeman who promised he would not try out for the LMSC Under 8 Boys team if we
gave him the trophy.
