SABERTOOTH RATS WIN YARDLEY COLUMBUS TOURNAMENT

October 11, 2009 - The LMSC Sabertooth Rats (U-9A boys) defeated Holmdel, New Jersey 7-1 in the championship of the Yardley Columbus Day Tournament's top bracket. The excitement in the tournament came with a hard fought 1-1 tie vs. a tremendous Baltimore team on Saturday. Both teams played excellent soccer and both teams hit the post on shots. At the end of prelminary round play the next day, both teams were 2-0-1 and tied in the standings (The Sabertooth Rats also defeated Reading Rage 6-1 and Council Rock 8-0).

The tie in the standings forced a penalty shot shootout to determine who would play Holmdel for the championship. The two teams matched shot for shot with Harrison Bloch, Harrison Malone, Jimmy Fallon and Griffin Wada making their PKs. The shootout went all the way to the 10th shooter for each team. Baltimore's player shot wide while LMSC's Justin Nachman stepped up and buried his shot to put his team into the finals. CLICK HERE to see Justin celebrating his goal. LMSC goalkeeper Sebastian Connelly made several great saves to keep his team alive in the PK competition.
