SABERTOOTH RATS WIN ROSS-HANEY LABOR DAY TOURNAMENT

September 6, 2009 - The LMSC Sabertooth Rats (U-9A boys) destroyed the competition in the Annual Ross-Haney Labor Day Weekend Tournament in Northeast Philadelphia.

The Rats opened up with the Philadelphia Soccer Club Americans and easily won 8-0. Their second game was a tough one as the team was down early against Marlton, New Jersey, but the Sabertooth Rats kicked it into a higher gear and won 6-2.

In the semifinals, the opponents were PSC Dynamo, but they proved no match for LMSC, dropping an 8-0 decision. The highlight of this game were three head goals, scored by Harrison Malone, Jimmy Fallon and Jason Aoyama. Right winger Julian "Dr. J." Niggeman was doing his best David Beckham impersonation, driving balls into the box for his teammates to run onto. Goalkeeper Sebastian Connelly helped earn the team their second shutout of the tournament and also scored a goal.

The win put LMSC into the finals against South Jersey Elite. South Jersey took a 1-0 lead on a nice free kick from 25 yards out. The next seven goals however were all LMSC's as the Sabetooth Rats cruised to a 7-1 win. During the tournament, the locals outscored their opponents 29-3.
