DENALI WIN KIRKWOOD PREMIER TOURNAMENT

June 14, 2009 - On June 13 and 14, the LMSC Denali (under 9 Boys A team) traveled down to Kirkwood, DE to compete in their last tournament of the year.  The Denali had been finalists in the West Chester Summer Classic, the Spirite United Kick off Classic and YMS Columbus Day tournaments. They also finished the fall as finalists in the Delco League and were finalists in the spring Outdoor State Cups.

In their last tournament of their first year playing travel soccer, the Denali finally finished with a championship! In the first game Saturday morning, they played DTS Heerenveen from New Jersey. After giving up a first half goal, the Denali came back and ran off 3 goals in the first half and 4 in the second half to win, 7-1. In the afternoon, the second game was cut short due to rain and lightning. Before the game was called, the Denali held a 1-0 lead over Kirkwood Soccer Club from Delaware. After the rain cleared, the boys came back on Sunday to compete in their last game of the tournament. They faced a tough Council Rock team from Eastern Pa. The Denali scored first but Council Rock worked hard to tie it up. The game stayed tied for most of the game until the Denali scored two more goals in the last 5 minutes of the game to come away with the win.

Will Eisold, Ian McGrath and Zach Goldstein played strong defense all weekend allowing only 2 goals to be scored in 3 games. The midfield was controlled by Spencer Higgins, Nicholas Wallick, Luke Vogelman and Carson Lonner. Our forwards helped contribute 11 goals over 3 games. They include: Robert Chukinas, Xavier Fanny, Justin Murawski and David Novacich.  Congratulations to all of the Denali players!
