VELEZ WIN UNDER 16 BOYS STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

May 17, 2008 - Last year, the Vélez reached the state championship game but lost in overtime. Determined to get back for another try, the Under 16 Vélez prepared well, reaching the quarterfinals of the Dallas Cup (considered the toughest tournament in the country) and winning the Region One Premier League, comprised of the top 16 teams in Region One (Maine through West Virginia). In the state championship game, Vélez faced their long time rivals, the Yardley-Makefield Xplosion. The Vélez came away with a hard fought 1-0 victory and advance to the Region One championships in Maine. Back in 2004, the Vélez were state champions at Under 12 and reached the semifinals of the Regional Championships. Best of luck to coach Miguel Nuila and the rest of the Vélez team at Regionals.
