MAGIC WIN UNDER 10 BOYS STATE CHAMPIONSHIP



May 17, 2008 - The Magic completed their quest for the outdoor EPYSA State Championship with a 2-0 win over the Hempfield Phantoms on May 17th. During the preliminary group play round, Magic went 3-0 with wins over the Ukrainian Nationals Atoms, Montgomery United Hotspurs, and Yardley-Makefield Cosmos.In the semifinals, the Magic won an exciting match versus Lower Dauphin United in penalty kicks after the game ended in a 0-0 tie.

Magic advanced to the championship game against the Hempfield Phantoms on Hempfield’s home field in Lancaster.Magic started strong with two goals in the first half, one by defensive star Padgett Gustavson and one by the versatile two-way player Josh Liss.Magic’s defense and goalie Peter Bradbeer shut-down Hempfield in the second half, resulting in the 2-0 victory.This championship run was truly a team effort.In addition to the players noted above, Justin Davis, Henry Farr, Felix Serlin, and Cody Wax lead the way on offense and supplied an impressive scoring attack; JD Egan, Griffin Fleming, Anthony Haines and Matt Mayer provided the critical two-way support in midfield; and Jerry Karalis gave the necessary shut-down speed on defense.

Capturing the State title was one of only the many impressive accomplishments for 2007-2008 Magic. They ended their year with a record of 46-8-3, capturing Delco League Division 1, Far Post Indoor, and Robert Urban Memorial Tournament Championships. In addition Magic was one of four finalists in a rain-shortened Gettysburg Blast tournament and placed second at the YMS Columbus Cup. This talented and hard work group is led by LMSC’s Travel Coach of the Year, Mark Weinmann, and Assistant Coach Dale Haines.
