FORMER LMSC PLAYER BEN OLSEN PLAYS IN WORLD CUP



August 1, 2006 - The Lower Merion Soccer Club would like to congratulate former LMSC player Ben Olsen for representing the USA in the 2006 World Cup, held June 9 - July 9 in Germany. Olsen came on in the second half of the game against Ghana, replacing injured team captain Claudio Reyna at center midfield.

Olsen, who grew up in the Harrisburg area, played for the Lower Merion Gorillas when the team was in the Under 14 age group. Olsen later starred at the University of Virginia, where he as NCAAA Player Of The Year. He has played for DC United of MLS soccer for seven years and represented the USA in the Sydney Olympics in 2000.

Ben Olsen is in the top row, seventh person from the left. Also in the top row, fifth person from the left is Jon Conway. Olsen joined Major League Soccer with DC United in 1998 while Conway joined MLS with the San Jose Earthquakes in 1999. Both players were still in MLS as of 2008.

In the front row, fourth person from the left is Adrian Cox who joined the LMSC Coaching Staff in 2006. The Gorillas coach (top row, far right) is current LMSC President Biff Sturla.
