2015 COACH OF THE YEAR AWARDS

Each year, LMSC honors two travel team coaches and one intramural coach for outstanding contributions to the club as well as overall success in adhering to the club philosophy of "providing each and every child with a fun filled experience in a soccer environment."

Our Girls Travel Team Coach Of The Year Award winner is Tom Honeyman, head coach for the LMSC Epic (U-11B girls). Tom's leadership has been a great inspiration to his players who have grown to have a great love for the game of soccer. A long time soccer player, Tom is now a principle of a local area school. Tom's tremendous passion for working with children and ability to teach the game of soccer have made him a great asset to Lower Merion Soccer Club. Congratulations to Tom on being named the 2015 LMSC Girls Travel Team Coach Of The Year.

Our Boys Travel Team Coach Of The Year Award winner is Gabe Betancourt, head coach for the LMSC Red Devils (U-12B boys). The LMSC Red Devils were Co-Champions of Delco League Division 1 this fall. This is the first time in LMSC history that a B team was crowned Champion or Co-Champion of the first division of Delco. This fall, Red Devils were also Champions at the Keystone Cup, semi-finalists at the YMS Columbus Cup and finalists at the MAPS Fall Challenge. This is the second time that Gabe has been recognized for his outstanding coaching efforts for LMSC travel, the first being as Girls Travel Team Coach Of The Year in 2001. Congratulations to Gabe on being named the 2015 LMSC Boys Travel Team Coach Of The Year.

Our Intramural Coach Of The Year Award goes to Erik Blindenbacher. Erik is co-director of our 4 and 5 year old intramural age groups and also coaches a team in the Bantams Division (6 year old boys). Erik is also one of our lead field crew members and a staff coach for our LMSC training programs. Erik was first involved with LMSC back in 1987 when he played in the Pee-Wees Division. In 1994, he was a starting midfielder for the LMSC Lunatics, helping them to the state championship. Erik was also a two time All-American lacrosse player at Lower Merion High School, leading that team to the state championship in 1999. Erik's great knowledge of sports has enabled him to be a valuable member of the LMSC coaching staff. He was on the field almost every Saturday with the five year olds and then back on Sunday with the four year olds. It is always great to have former LMSC players come back and become valuable contributors at the coaching level. Congratulations to Erik on being named the 2015 LMSC Intramural Coach Of The Year.
